Diet and nutrition are an integral part of the overall health of your body. Most of us know about the 80/20 rule when it comes to nutrition but some of our food choices are more detrimental to our health than not. These choices often consist of foods that make you age faster.

If you want to be healthy, look and feel young, you must have a clean diet. When 80/20 is applied to food, it means that you should eat healthy foods 80% of the time and eat unhealthy foods 20% of the time.

Here are some food choices that can age you faster.

Microwave Dinners and Pre-Packaged food

This is always a go to when you’re short on time and need a meal quickly. The problem with these types of meals is that they can be very high in sodium.

Studies have shown that in North America, we get 75 percent of the salt in our diet out of packaged or processed foods. Sodium causes you to retain excess water, which can cause you to look more aged and puffy.

Margarine

Margarine is a butter alternative that was created in the late 1800’s and consists mostly of vegetable oil. Margarine can be quite high in trans fat, which destroys skin hydration.

If your skin is unable to retain water, sagging and wrinkling are more likely to occur. In moderation, butter is usually a better alternative.

Alcohol

When it comes to alcohol consumption, drinking in excess should be avoided. Alcohol takes vitamin A away from your body, which is an antioxidant that is vital for cell regeneration.

If you must, try to go for drinks like vodka soda with lime, wine, or champagne.

Energy Drinks

Energy drinks like Red Bull or Rockstar are very acidic and high in sugar. A combination like this can contribute to tooth decay, staining and erosion. Energy drinks can also cause you to become dehydrated, which in turn can make your skin look dry and tired.

Stick to drinking some water when you need your thirst quenched or green tea if you need a pick-me-up. These small changes can go a long way.

Bacon

This is absolutely a common breakfast favorite. Even in small servings, bacon isn’t beneficial to your health at all.

Processed foods like bacon, sausage and ham can create free radicals within the body, which can lead to cancer and other health ailments.

Keep these servings of breakfasts meats to only once in awhile but it’s best to avoid them altogether. If anything, bacon is probably the most common, in the matter of foods that make you age faster.
